Soulframe Is A New Open-World Adventure From Warframe Creators

Digital Extremes, the team well-known for creating and supporting Warframe for years, is now working on a brand new IP: Soulframe.

Officially revealed during TennoCon 2022, Digital Extremes shared the first cinematic trailer from Soulframe, a free-to-play fantasy adventure set in an open-world universe, where you will find yourself in the golden era of sword and magic.

Soulframe is still early in development, so, you shouldn’t expect a release date or gameplay footage anytime soon. However, the cinematic trailer does look promising. You can check it out below to get more familiar with the Soulframe setting.

Like Warframe, Soulframe will also be an MMO experience, but there will be a significant difference between gameplay, combats, and the worlds of the titles. Digital Extremes has not revealed whether the lore of the two games would have any ties, but regarding how the names “Warframe” and “Soulframe” have similarities to each other, it wouldn’t be surprising for them to share the same lore. The best scenario could be that Soulframe is set way before the Warframe events, in the same universe.

Digital Extremes describes the world of Soulframe as a place where humanity and nature collide. The developers have apparently taken inspiration from some similar-themed worlds created in other mediums to craft the universe of Soulframe.

That being said, the developers made it clear that Soulframe doesn’t take any inspiration from Elden Ring or any other FromSoftware game. So, you can probably rest assured that it won’t be a hardcore MMORPG.

Steve Sinclair, the former creative director behind Warframe, will now strictly focus on developing the new MMORPG with a number of other developers, while Rebecca Ford steps up to become the creative director of Warframe.

It’s worth noting that the announcement of Soulframe is no threat to Warframe as the developers will still continue to support Warframe with new content. During TennoCon 2022, Digital Extremes revealed the next cinematic expansion coming to Warframe, which will be released in the first quarter of 2023.
