Sony Announces New PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program

The program is set to launch later this year

July 14, 2022

Sony is set to launch a new loyalty program known as PlayStation Stars later this year, which will allow players to unlock exclusive rewards via a new loyalty points system.

The announcement was made earlier today by Vice President of Network Advertising at PlayStation, Grace Chen, via a blog post on the official PlayStation website. The post confirms that the program will be completely free to join and aims to celebrate “you, the player”.

According to Chen, the new loyalty program will give players the opportunity to earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. Essentially, PlayStation users are going to be rewarded simply for playing the games they own.

The new “Monthly Check-In” campaign requires the users to play any game of their choice to receive a reward, while other campaigns will require gamers to win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in your local timezone.

All of these tasks will then reward the user with new “loyalty points”, which can be redeemed in a catalog that may include PSN wallet funds and select PlayStation Store products. There’s also an added benefit for PlayStation Plus users who enrol in the PlayStation Stars program, as they will automatically earn points for all purchases made in the PlayStation Store.

Sony also confirmed that a new type of reward known as “digital collectibles” will also be rolled out alongside the new PlayStation Stars program. These collectibles are “digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation”.

An exact launch date for the new program wasn’t confirmed, but fans can read more about the program via the latest PlayStation Blog post.
