NBA 2K23 Celebrates The WNBA With GameStop-Exclusive Diana Taurasi And Sue Bird Cover

History was made last year when NBA 2K22 released the game with a GameStop-exclusive cover starring Candace Parker, a long-time veteran of the WNBA. 2K Sports has decided to follow this up with a second exclusive cover at GameStop for NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition, this time featuring two of the league’s best superstars over the last nearly two decades with Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird.

The announcement cycle for NBA 2K23 started up on Tuesday with the reveal of the Michael Jordan Edition and Championship Edition that will serve as the premium versions of the game.

NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition will launch alongside the regular game as a GameStop-exclusive, with two of the most well known WNBA players gracing the cover. The only thing that makes this version different besides the cover is that there will be exclusive jerseys for Taurasi and Bird included in this version as a pre-order bonus.

Diana Taurasi is the Phoenix Mercury’s two-time Kia WNBA Finals MVP, three-time WNBA Champion, and the all-time leading scorer for the entire WNBA. She’s a five-time Olympic gold medalist as well.

Sue Bird is the Seattle Storm’s four-time WNBA champion, thirteen-time WNBA All-Star, and the WNBA all-time assists leader. Like Taurasi, she is also a five-time Olympic gold medalist.

Alfie Brody, Vice President of Global Marketing Strategy at 2K had the following to say in regards to the WNBA Edition last year and why they brought it back: “The response to NBA 2K’s first WNBA Edition last year was overwhelmingly positive and a testament to the W’s growing audience and prominence. Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi have achieved greatness both individually and together, cementing their status as two of the best players in the WNBA’s history.”

While the WNBA certainly doesn’t have the popularity of the NBA, the sport still deserves its time in the spotlight. That is why NBA 2K23 continuing the celebration of the sport is all the more important both in-game and on the cover.

The pricing for the WNBA Edition should not be any different from the base version, but that will be confirmed tomorrow when more information is unveiled.
