MLB The Show 22 Week-Long Trial Available Now On Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch Online members can try the full game out for one week, no restrictions, no additional cost.

July 16, 2022

Nintendo continues trying to sweeten the deal for their online membership, now in the form of game trials. As announced via their Twitter, the latest yearly baseball game, MLB The Show 2022, is available to download and play in its entirety right now for Nintendo Switch Online members. Note that this is not with the Expansion Pack version of the subscription, but the base version, which most Switch users have simply to play online.

The game can be played at no additional cost up until July 21st, 2022, after which the trial period will end and you’ll be locked out of access. Your game data can be saved, however, so your progress does not disappear if you choose to buy the game later on. In order to incentivize this, the game has been reduced in price to $29.99 USD up until July 22nd.

MLB The Show 2022, released on April 5th, is the most recent iteration of the MLB The Show franchise. This particular title marked a stark deviation for the series as it was the first time that a ‘The Show’ game was available on a Nintendo platform. The Show was previously a PlayStation exclusive, as it is made by San Diego Studio, a first-party PlayStation team, however, due to insistence by the MLB, the series was made available on Xbox with The Show 2021, and now on all three major platforms in 2022.

MLB The Show 2022 received generally favorable reviews on the Switch, with an 81 Metacritic score, but it was averaged from only 4 reviewers. Many players praised the fundamental mechanics of the baseball simulator, but contended that the lower-end hardware of the Switch hampered visuals and even game performance. This is exactly why this game trial seems apt though; players can try it out first, to see if they find the Switch version acceptable, and go from there.

Nintendo is seemingly on the quest to up the value on their online membership, as just recently they offered a week-long trial (now unavailable) for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, the precursor to this year’s anticipated sequel, Sparks of Hope. Though some may find the limited-time trial aspect unappealing, especially when considering that PlayStation and Xbox simply give their paying online members games to keep every month, there is undeniable value here. And this is especially true for single-player campaign games, as players could hypothetically finish the game in under a week, getting its full value from the trial.

Nintendo Switch Online costs USD $3.99 a month, or USD $19.99 a year.
